Set up

  1. 01Feet under the hips, soft knees, hands on the thighs.
  2. 02This is the pattern under every deadlift.
  3. 03Brace before you move.

Cues

  • Push the hips back as if closing a car door with the hips.
  • Shins stay quiet. Spine stays long.
  • Feel the hamstrings load, then stand by squeezing the glutes.

Breath

Inhale into the hinge. Exhale as you stand.

Common faults

Knees traveling forward

Think 'hips back', not 'sit down'.

Rounding

Proud chest, eyes on the floor a few feet ahead.

Locking the knees

Keep a soft, consistent knee bend the whole way.

Scale the pattern

Same movement family. The regression shortens the lever or gives you a target. The progression asks for more.
